Academic medicine advancement: Turning passion into a career

Kate Azizi, Vice President for Institutional Advancement at the Medical University of South Carolina, spoke with John Glier, GG+A CEO, about how her deeply-rooted connection to philanthropy led her to a fulfilling career that has taken her across the country where she has seen the power of philanthropy at work for medical research, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her advice to those interested in working in the field, “Build your network and look to your mentors. Be a mentor and make connections. Give thought to what’s important to you in your career and what you want moving forward.” Hear how Kate drew on her nonprofit volunteer work and experience in financial services to build a career in philanthropy.
